Two people were taken for treatment of injuries following a crash Thursday afternoon near Lake Sara.

Effingham County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened at 4:44pm on Moccasin Road at Beach Road.

Deputies report a SUV driven by 46-year-old Tyson Massey of Effingham was traveling west of Moccasin Road and stopped to wait for the opportunity to turn south onto Beach Road.

77-year-old Janet Hillhouse of Altamont was westbound at the same intersection, traveling behind Massey. While stopped and waiting to turn, Massey’s vehicle was rear-ended by the Hillhouse vehicle. The impact caused the Massey vehicle to end up off the road and in the ditch, where it rolled over and landed on its top.

Massey was injured, as was his passenger, 44-year-old Lucas Schuette of Effingham. Both were taken by Rural Med EMS to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Hillhouse was examined by Rural Med, but refused transport.

Hillhouse was cited by deputies for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
