ALTAMONT — Cumberland advanced from opening round play at the Class 1A Altamont Baseball Regional Monday.
Cumberland easily handled Lawrenceville by an 11-1 count in five innings.
The Pirates moved ahead 3-0 in the first inning, added on five in the second for an 8-0 lead. Lawrenceville scored a run in the third. But Cumberland finished the game with a three-run bottom of the fifth.
The Pirates were led by Reed Miller with three singles and three RBI, Hudson McElravy with two singles and an RBI, Lance Lock with a single and two RBI and Kade McMechan and Adyn Heuerman with an RBI each.
Maddox Miller went the five innings, giving up one run on three hits, three walks while striking out seven.
The Pirates will now advance to face Altamont at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. In the second contest, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg takes on Red Hill at 7 p.m.

Morrisonville Regional
Brownstown/St. Elmo pounded Ramsey-Mulberry Grove 18-3 in four innings at the Class 1A Morrisonville Regional Monday.
BSE opened up a 5-1 first inning lead then tacked on six runs in the second and third innings and finished the game in the fourth.
The Bombers had 11 hits led by Calvin Voelker with two singles, a double and two RBI, Lucas Powell with three singles and two RBI, Logan Lach with a double and two RBI and Jayce Gillespie with a double. Nolan Wilhour added a single and two RBI.
Brownstown/St. Elmo is 10-11 on the season and back in action Wednesday taking on host Morrisonville at 4:30 p.m.
The second game will feature Nokomis against Greenville at 7 p.m.
The winners will advance to the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m.

North Clay Regional
South Central handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 5-1 loss in the Class 1A North Clay Regional Monday.
CHBC moved into a 1-0 lead in the third inning and held that until the sixth when the Cougars tallied two runs and finished off with three in the seventh.
CHBC had only two hits, a double and an RBI by Connor Vaughn and a single by Clive Schlanser.
South Central now heads on to face North Clay Wednesday at North Clay. The contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Thursday’s game will have Dieterich against Casey-Westfield at 4 p.m.
The winners advance to the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m.

The winner now advances to face Teutopolis at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Thursday’s game will have St. Anthony taking on Vandalia at 4:30 p.m.
The winners advance to the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m.
At Effingham
In the lone Monday game at the Class 2A Effingham Regional, Robinson blanked Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville 10-0.
Robinson now advances to face Newton at 4 p.m. Wednesday. In the second contest at 6:30, Effingham and Olney, Richland County square off.
