 Joblessness Up in April from March

The Illinois unemployment rate for April was 5.1%, unchanged from March, and up from 4.5% the same month, one year ago.

There were increases in employment in Trade, Transportation and Utilities; Leisure and Hospiality; and Private Education and Health Services. The sectors with decreases are Professional and Business Services; Financial Activities; and Government.

Compared to a year ago, total nonfarm payrolls were 4,500 jobs.
