MATTOON — Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg is the Class 1A Cumberland Softball Regional champion after winning Thursday over Cumberland.
The Hatchets ripped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning then tallied single runs in the second and third to finish with a 10-2 victory over Cumberland at Lake Land College.
Windsor/Stew-Stras finished with 13 hits led by Kendra Hayes with three singles, a triple and an RBI, Clarissa Johnson with two singles and a double, Makenna Corrie with two singles and three RBI, Zaida Wascher with two singles and an RBI, Claire Holland and Kalia Friese with a single and an RBI each and Mya Friese and Cameron Carey each with an RBI.
Hayes went the seven innings on the mound. She gave up two runs on six hits. She did not allow a walk and struck out two.
Cumberland finished with six hits. Ashton Tolen and Kinley McMechan led the way with a single and an RBI each. Jude Miller, Kada Miles, Mia Holsapple and Baya Carter added a single each.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg heads to the Casey-Westfield Sectional Tuesday and will meet the winner of the Edwards County Regional at 6:30 p.m.

At Altamont
Altamont played host to Casey-Westfield in the championship game of its own Class 1A Regional but fell to the Warriors by a 10-1 count Thursday.
Casey-Westfield moved into a 3-1 opening inning lead then tacked on two more in the second and led 7-1 in the fourth. The Warriors finished out with one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The Warriors had six hits led by Gabriela Frye with a home run and three RBI, Anna Karras with a home run and two RBI, Ava Goble with a single and double and Ella Whitacre with a single and two RBI.
Goble went the distance on the mound, giving up one run on three hits, walking two and striking out seven.
Altamont had three hits, all singles by Alyssa Ruholl, Cecilia Pearcy and Sophia Long.

At Albion
Dieterich’s season came to a close at the Class 1A Edwards County (Albion) Regional with a 10-7 loss to Lawrenceville Thursday.
The Movin’ Maroons battled through 11 innings before Lawrenceville scored three runs to pull out a 10-7 victory.
Lawrenceville moved into a 2-0 opening inning lead and led 6-2 after two. Dieterich started back with single runs in the third and fifth and tied the score in the bottom of the sixth with two runs.
That’s where the seventh ended with the two teams tied. Both teams then scored a single run in the eighth. Lawrenceville tallied three runs in the top of the 11th for the win.
Dieterich had 10 hits led by Kinley Michl with a single, double, home run and one RBI, Claire Faller with four singles and an RBI, Kinley Will with a double and an RBI, Callie Faller with a single and an RBI and Lexie Funneman with an RBI.
Edwards County blanked Grayville, 5-0.
Edwards County and Lawenceville will meet for the regional championship at 4:30 p.m. today.

South Central pounded Red Hill (Bridgeport) by a 17-0 count in a semifinal contest at the Class 1A South Central Regional Thursday.
The Cougars now advance to face Hutsonville/Palestine at 4:30 p.m. today for the regional championship. The winner then advances to the Casey-Westfield Sectional May 26.
