 Parkland College Heads To World Softball Series With Four Effingham-Based Players

The Parkland College women’s softball team competes in NJCAA Division II and the Mid-West Athletic Conference (MWAC). Based in Champaign, Illinois, the Cobras play their home games at the Parkland College Softball Field.

The No. 17 Parkland College softball team punched their ticket to the NJCAA Division II World Series by sweeping Illinois Central College in the NJCAA Region 24 Championship.

How They Got There: The Cobras won the district title by sweeping their regional championship doubleheader (2-1 and 7-0). The team’s latest season highlights and current status include: 2026 Season: The Cobras are competing in the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series, taking place at Tyger River Park in Spartanburg, SC.

Regional Champions: The team punched their ticket to the national tournament by winning the NJCAA Region 24 Championship and the District title.Team Record: Entering the national championship tournament, the team holds an impressive record of 38-18.

Roster & Staff: The roster features a strong local contingent, including several student-athletes from the Effingham area. The program is led by Head Coach Lenny Sementi, alongside assistant coaches Erin Walker and Joshua Shelmadine.

Local members of the team include: Saige Althoff (Effingham), sophomore; Lucy Fearday (Effingham), sophomore; Camille Wines (St. Anthony), freshman and Ella Johnsson (St. Anthony). Fearday pitched five games to win the championship and heads to the World Series, May 19-24.
