St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed the championship of the Egyptian Illini Conference Girls Softball Tournament Saturday.
In semifinal play, St. Elmo/Brownstown advanced to the championship game with a 10-6 victory over Martinsville.
SEB moved into a 5-1 opening inning lead then added on two runs in the second and three in the third. Martinsville came back in the fourth, scoring three runs and finished out with single runs in the first and sixth but couldn’t make up the deficit.
Both teams had eight hits and four errors.
St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Brooklyn Landrus and Heaven Hardesty with a double and an RBI each, Alivia Claycomb with two singles and two RBI, Macy Claycomb with a single and an RBI and Macey Sapp with an RBI.
Kadence Speagle went the six innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, one walk while striking out nine.
Ramsey was a 10-2 winner over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in the other semifinal contest. Ramsey finished with 14 hits.
Leading CHBC was Ryleigh Sarver with two singles and Allison Shields with two stolen bases.
St. Elmo/Brownstown trailed Ramsey 1-0 until the third inning in the championship game. SEB then tied the game in the third and tallied two more in the fifth for the win and the championship title.
Both teams had four hits. SEB was led by Izzy Orr, A. Claycomb, Hardesty and M. Claycomb with a single each. Landrus added an RBI.
Speagle went the six innings, giving up one run on four hits, five walks and striking out eight.

At Mattoon
Mattoon trailed Effingham by a 3-1 count after the first inning but ended up edging the Hearts, 10-9 Saturday.
Despite outhitting the Green Wave by an 11-10 count, the Hearts ended up letting Mattoon come back in the bottom of the seventh with the tying and winning runs.
EHS was led in hitting by Natalie Armstrong with a single, home run and three RBI, Cora Hartmann with a single, triple and an RBI, Maci Hayes with a single and double, Giah Schlanser with a double and two RBI and Keagyn Koenig with a double and one RBI. Ryley Engel finished with two singles and an RBI and Molly Maxedon with a single and an RBI.
