Fire damaged a home in Effingham Saturday morning.
Effingham firefighters were called to the home of Patricia McDaniel at 1017 Henrietta Street at 6am. Effingham Assistant Fire Chief Matt Kulesza said the fire originated in the kitchen area. One of the first two arriving crews got water on the fire to stop its spread.
No one was injured although two cats inside could not be rescued.
Effingham, Shumway and Teutopolis firefighters were called to the scene along with Effingham City Police and Dispatch, Rural Med EMS, and Ameren gas and electric.
Firefighters cleared the scene within an hour of their arrival. The cause of the fire is still being determined.
