The Effingham Athletic Department runs an Athlete of the Month program every month. Athletes are nominated by coaches based upon the following criteria: Stats, Accomplishments, Character, Coachability, Leadership and Sportsmanship

April 2026 Winners

Cami Burgholzer, Jr. – Track & Field

“Camdyn has truly been on fire this year. During the indoor season she was able to qualify for Indoor State in Bloomington, and also set the indoor high jump school record. Moving into outdoor season, she has kept this momentum going. She has placed 1st in High Jump in 5 out of 6 meets, continues to score points in both hurdle events, and has even become one of our top 2 triple jumpers. Her coachability, work ethic, and immense passion for what she does truly makes her such an incredible asset to the team. She is a great role model for others, and is always looking to improve herself. Most recently, her hard work and talent were put to the test as she tied the 26 year old School Record in High Jump going 5’5″!” — Coach Shayna Scott

Cannon Bockhorn, Sr. — Tennis

“Cannon has accumulated a record of 14-5 in April for singles and doubles which leads the team in wins. Cannon plays #2 singles and #1 doubles with Rece Kinney. He is currently ranked second in both of those places in the Apollo Conference. Cannon’s maturity on the court as well as his experience being our senior leader helps shape a culture of winning for the rest of the team to follow. Cannon keeps a cool head under pressure. He has stepped up to fill in at 1 singles when needed and played that position just as tough as any other player around. I have no doubt Cannon will be successful in the post season this year.” — Coach Erik Williamson
