 Flora Edges St. Anthony 5-4, EHS Downs Charleston 8-1 In Tennis Competition

Flora High School came calling and edged Effingham St. Anthony, 5-4 in tennis competition Monday.

The two teams split singles wins. St. Anthony’s Drake Brown claimed the No. 3 win, 6-0, 6-4. Mason Jones won at No. 5, 6-4, 6-4 and Max Gillenwater took his match. He lost the opener 6-3 but came back strong to win 6-1, 10-8.

In doubles play, Alec Hakman and Charlie Bierman were the lone victors. The pair went 6-2, 6-2 for the win.

St. Anthony is back in action Thursday playing host to Teutopolis in a match that will begin at 4:30 p.m.

At Charleston

Effingham continued to bring down opponents, this time it was Charleston by an 8-1 count in tennis action Monday.

The Hearts swept the singles play. Rece Kinney won 6-7 (7-1), 7-5, 10-8 in a tough battle at the No. 1 spot.

Cannon Bockhorn also had a tough contest, winning 6-2, 5-7, 10-6.

The rest of the singles was two sets as Joel Flack won 6-0, 6-1 while Brady Wilson took 6-1, 6-0 sets. Noah Jones went 6-0, 6-1 and Cole Jones claimed 6-2, 6-2 wins.

In doubles play, Wilson and Flack joined to win the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-3. C. Jones and N. Jones were 7-6, (7-2), 6-2 winners at No. 3.

The Hearts improved to 12-3 on the season and are back in action today hosting Newton.
