 EHS Big Winner Over Flora, Altamont, Brownstown/St. Elmo Victorious In H.S. Baseball

Effingham was a big winner over Flora by a 10-0 tally in high school baseball Friday.

The Hearts opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with two home runs. Carter Braddy hit a solo shot while Jude Traub connected for a home run.

A fly out by Jacob Warner extended the Hearts lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third.

Effingham scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth. An error scored a run, Traub was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. Brayden Tucker grounded out, scoring a run and Max Flack singled, scoring two runs.

Westin Hayes earned the win for the Hearts. He surrendered two hits and no runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Effingham collected 13 hits led by Braddy with a single, home run and an RBI, Traub with a home run and three RBI, Tucker with three singles and two RBI, Brody Boehm and Westin Hayes with two singles each and Max Flack with a single and two RBI.

The Hearts will be back in action Wednesday as the City Series begins with St. Anthony.

Effingham’s junior varsity was a 14-7 winner over Casey-Westfield Friday.

Casey-Westfield held a 4-3 lead after two innings but the Hearts tallied four in the third and went on for the victory.

Effingham had 10 hits led by Coen Westjohn with a double, home run and four RBI, Nash Wernsing with two doubles and four RBI, Balen Garris with a single, double and three RBI Dagg Thompson with a double and Ian Klnkelaar with two singles.

At Dieterich

Altamont’s Kade Milleville kept Dieterich under control as the Indians blanked the Maroons by a 6-0 count Friday.

K. Milleville went all seven innings, giving up two hits, one walk while striking out nine.

Meanwhile, the Indians finished with 11 hits led by K. Milleville with three singles, a double and an RBI, Brayden Elam with a solo home run, Zaine Miller with a single, double and an RBI, Cooper McManaway with two singles, Reed Stuemke with a single and an RBI and Will Reardon and Carson Milleville with an RBI each.

Dieterich finished with two hits, singles by Dominic Ashley and Justin Boerngen.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo tallied a 7-5 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Friday.

BSE moved into a 2-0 lead in the second but CHBC tied in the top of the third. However, BSE came back in the bottom of the third to score five then held off CHBC in the sixth.

The Bombers finished with seven hits led by Zayden Gillespie and Calvin Voelker with two singles each. Gillespie had an RBI.

Gillespie tossed 5.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits, three walks and striking out five.

Brownstown/St. Elmo is now 7-9 on the season and is back in action Tuesday at South Central.
