(JOHN MONNET)
Former Effingham County Sheriff John Monnet was the guest speaker at Wednesday’s National Day of Prayer observance.
This was the 11th celebration of the event that is sponsored each year by a group of Christian businessmen.
Monnet shared from the Book of Jonah, who was a prophet who got a message from God to preach repentance to the people of Ninevah, but instead headed in the other direction. He later ended up in the sea and encountered a “great fish” who swallowed him, then spit him out on the shore. He ended up going to Ninevah, preached the message God wanted them to hear, and saw a great revival result.
Monnet contrasted his life with that of Jonah, and how he too had returned to the life God had intended for him.
More than 200 people attended Wednesday’s breakfast. Over $4,200 was received with the proceeds going to Community Support Systems.
