 North Clay Rallies For Win Over St. Anthony, Cumberland, Windsor/ Stew-Stras, Newton Claim Victories, Brownstown/St. Elmo, Altamont Fall

North Clay trailed Effingham St. Anthony 6-3 after five innings and things did not look good for the Cardinals.

But North Clay rallied with four runs in the top of the fourth and pulled out an 8-6 victory over the Bulldogs Monday.

The Cardinals finished with seven hits compared to 10 for St. Anthony. Cayden Craig hit a solo home run. Cooper Lewis had a double and drove in three runs. Cody Zimdars had a double and Ben Czyzewski two singles. Ian Jones finished with two RBI.

Zimdars went the final 2.2 innings for the mound victory. Zimdars gave up one run on three hits, one walk and struck out five.

The Bulldogs had 10 hits. Rogan Allen finished with a single and double for the Bulldogs while Charley Spour had two singles and two RBI. Ben McDonald added two singles and an RBI. Blake Verdeyen and Curtis TIngley had a single and an RBI each.

St. Anthony went through four pitchers who ended allowing 11 walks.

At Broadlands

Cumberland moved into a 5-0 opening inning lead against Heritage and finished by pounding out 17 hits and winning 25-2 in four innings Monday.

Maddox Miller and Lance Lock led the way in the hitting attack. Miller had three singles, a double and an RBI and Lock had a triple, a home run and five RBI. Reed Walker and Kade Mechan had two singles and two RBI each, Adyn Heuerman a double and two RBI, Reed Miller a triple and an RBI and Hudson McElravy a double and an RBI.

Grady Jones had a single and two RBI while Ty Ralston and Gavin Wormhoudt had a single and an RBI each. Gavin Keyser and Bryson Weber added an RBI each.

Jones went an inning for the victory on the mound. He did not give up a hit or a walk while striking out three. Heuerman finished out the final three innings, giving up two runs on three hits, walking four and striking out five.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg’s pitching held Brownstown/St. Elmo to three hits while the Bombers committed eight errors as the Hatchets won 10-0 Monday.

Grayson McCray went the first four innings on the mound, giving up one walk and striking out seven. Mason Manhart came on to toss the final three innings, giving up three hits while striking out two.

Meanwhile, the Hatchets moved into a 2-0 lead in the third inning, then added on five in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Branson Tingley led the way in hitting with two singles and a double. Seth Rincker added a double and an RBI while Carter Verdeyen had two singles and two RBI, Jacob Vonderheide two singles, Noah Pruemer three RBI and Derk Friese a single and an RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo (6-9) had three hits, all singles by Jayce Gillespie, Logan Lach and Calvin Voelker.

Newton edged out to a 1-0 lead against Lawrenceville and went on to end this game in the sixth 10-0 Monday.

The Eagles finished with 12 hits while Carson and Carter Barthelme tossed four and two innings, giving up only three hits, two walks while striking out a total of 12.

Gavin Meinhart had a double, home run and four RBI while Drake Wolf had three singles, a double and an RBI. Quincy Fulton hit a home run and had two RBI. Maddox Horner had two singles while David Ferguson had a single and an RBI. Dominic Baltzell added two RBI.

Altamont and Father McGivney went five innings without a score. Then Father McGivney broke free, scoring three in the top of the sixth and two in the seventh for a 5-0 victory Monday.

Grant Reed went all seven innings on the mound, keeping Altamont under control. He allowed only one hit, one walk and struck out nine.

Altamont’s lone hit was a single by Kade Milleville.

Meanwhile, Father McGivney had nine hits led by Jack Hunter with a double, home run and three RBI and Isaac Wendliner with two doubles and an RBI.
