Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, St. Anthony, Cumberland and Neoga advanced in winner bracket action at the National Trail Conference Girls Softball Tournament Monday.
Windsor/Stew-Stras blanked St. Elmo/Brownstown by a 12-0 count in four innings as Kendra Hayes tossed a no-hitter.
Hayes kept the Eagles off the basepath. She did not allow a walk and struck out four.
Meanwhile, the Hatchets were scattering hits all over the place finishing with 12. Kalia Friese and Cameron Carey finished with a double each. Carey drove in a run. Mya Friese and Kinsley Dunaway had two singles and two RBI each. Hayes and Makenna Corrie had two singles and an RBI each. Zaida Wascher finished with a single and two RBI while Claire Holland had a single and an RBI and Clarissa Johnson added an RBI.
Effingham St. Anthony handed Dieterich a 5-2 loss. Dieterich moved into a 1-0 lead in the second inning but the Bulldogs struck quickly as well, scoring two in the third. The Bulldogs held a 5-1 lead in the sixth. Dieterich added on a final run in the seventh.
The Bulldogs finished with seven hits led by Lilly Gannaway with two singles and an RBI. Jackie Vonderheide added two RBI. Kennedi Schultz and Emeline Wines ended with a single and an RBI each.
Nancy Ruholl went all seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits. She walked one and struck out seven.
Dieterich’s Kensi Stortzum hit a solo home run. Addi Huber finished with an RBI.
In game five, Cumberland finished with 10 hits and claimed an 8-1 victory over Altamont.
The Pirates moved into a 4-0 opening inning lead. They tacked on three more runs int the fifth and one in the sixth. The lone run for Altamont came in the seventh.
Cumberland was led in hitting by Jude Miller with a single, two doubles and three RBI. Kada Miles had three singles and an RBI while Ava Long two singles and two RBI. Lauren Schnepper finished with a double and Mia Holsapple added two RBI.
Holsapple went the distance on the mound. She struck out 10 while giving up only one run on three hits. She walked only one.
Sophia Long had two of Altamont’s three hits with a single and a double. Reagan Kunestler produced the other hit with a single. Laila Hankins had an RBI.
In the sixth contest, South Central’s Maddie Peddicord threw a no-hitter but didn’t win the game as Neoga claimed a 3-0 victory.
Neoga tallied a single run in the third then tacked on two more in the sixth. Maleah Coy had an RBI. The Indians were aided by drawing five walks.
South Central had four hits led by Maddie Peddicord with a triple and Annie Ruholl with two singles.
The tournament continues Wednesday. Windsor/Stew-Stras will meet St. Anthony at 4:15 p.m. in winner bracket play while St. Elmo/Brownstown faces Dieterich, also at 4:15 p.m. in a consy game.
Cumberland faces Neoga in winner bracket action at 6:15 p.m. while Altamont meets South Central at 6:15 p.m. in consolation bracket play.
