 Dieterich Downs CHBC, BSE, Newton Drop High School Baseball Losses, Teutopolis Loses In F/S Baseball

COWDEN — Dieterich moved into a 3-1 lead on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in the second inning and went on for an 11-2 win in high school baseball action Thursday.

The Maroons put together a seven-run seventh inning to finish strong.

Bryce Bohnhoff had two doubles and an RBI while Ben Schottman had a single, double and an RBI. Traden Kessler finished with two singles and an RBI while Logan Gipson had two RBI and Cooper Stortzum added a single and an RBI. Colin Nichols also had an RBI.

Bohnhoff went 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on two hits, four walks and striking out nine. Alex Schottman went the final 1.1 innings giving up one hit and striking out two.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Cayden Ondes, Clive Schlanser and Connor Vaughn with a single each. Ondes had an RBI.

At Vandalia

Vandalia edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and tacked on another run in the third. The Vandals ended up blanking Brownstown/St. Elmo, 6-0 Thursday.

Brownstown/St. Elmo had three hits, all singles by Keelan Speagle, Calvin Voelker and Nolan Wilhour.

The Bombers dropped to 6-8 on the season and are back in action Monday against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

At Robinson

Robinson tallied a 2-0 first inning lead. Both teams scored a single run in the fifth. Newton came back with two runs in the seventh to tie the score at 3-3 sending the game into the extra inning.

Robinson then tallied the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

The Eagles had seven hits led by Maddox Horner with a single and double, Drake Wolf added two singles while Quincy Fulton and David Ferguson had a single and an RBI each. Dominic Baltzell and Reed Tharp added an RBI each.

Mattoon moved into a 2-1 opening inning lead but Teutopolis came back to tie the score at 5-5 in the second. The Green Wave moved ahead again with a four run fourth then tacked on a final run in the sixth. T-town attempted a comeback with four runs in the bottom of the sixth only to fall short by a 10-9 count in freshman/sophomore baseball action Thursday.

T-town had 12 hits led by B. Schumacher with three singles and two RBI, A. Grunloh with a single, double and an RBI, B. Niemerg with a double, L. Niebrugge with wo singles and an RBI and W. Bushur and L. Dittamore with a single and an RBI each.
