The scoring all came in the first two innings as North Clay handed Altamont a 5-0 loss in a National Trail Conference baseball game heard on KJ Country 102.3 Thursday.
The Cardinals swept out to a 3-0 opening inning lead. Jack Compton got North Clay off in the right direction with a lead-off double. Cayden Craig followed with a single. Ian Jones then grounded out and Compton scored.
North Clay got three more runners on base on an error and two hit batters.
Carter Walden singled and stole second. The Indians then proceeded to have two throwing errors and the Cardinals held a 3-0 lead.
Things continued to go south for Altamont in the second inning as North Clay scored again. This time, Jones was hit by a pitch and Walden followed with a home run and the score stood at 5-0.
That’s where the scoring ended although both teams had players on base over the next five innings.
North Clay finished with 10 hits led by Walden with two singles, a home run and two RBI and Compton with a single and double. Jones added a single and an RBI and Cooper Lewis had two singles.
Compton tossed the first six innings keeping the Indians off the bases with 10 strikeouts. He gave up two hits and walked one. Jones came on to finish the final two outs.
Altamont was led by Brayden Elam with a double and Zaine Miller had a single.
