Two people were injured in an ATV accident just after 6pm Saturday.

The incident happened in an open grassy field off Walnut Street in Watson.

Effingham County Sheriff’s Office reports the ATV, operated by 19-year-old Maddox Burner of Effingham, began to drift in a circular motion, lost its center of gravity, and rolled over, coming to rest on its top in the field. Neither occupant of the ATV was ejected from the vehicle.

Burner was injured and was taken by private vehicle to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

The passenger in the unit, 23-year-old Berkley Howell of Mattoon, was injured and was taken by Rural Med and Air Evac to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield for treatment.

No citations were injured.
