Effingham High School swept a baseball doubleheader over Taylorville in Apollo Conference action Wednesday.
The Hearts won the opener 6-2 behind nine hits. EHS moved into a 2-0 first inning lead after Carter Braddy singled and Max Flack walked, each scoring a run. The Hearts then tacked on a single run in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Braddy kept the Tornadoes under control. He struck out 10 batters and gave up only two hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings. He gave up four walks.
Taylorville didn’t score until the sixth with a single run and finished out with a final run in the seventh.
The Hearts ended with nine hits. Braddy and Westin Hayes collected two each. Braddy with two singles and an RBI and Hayes with a single and double. Wyatt Hayes added a double. Jude Traub contributed a single and had two RBI. Max Flack had an RBI.
In the second game, Effingham had a 12-hit attack and won 8-5.
The Hearts broke a 2-2 opening inning tie with two runs in the second, three in the fourth and one in the sixth. Taylorville made a comeback with three runs in the bottom of the sixth only to fall short.
EHS finished with 12 hits in the game. Flack had a single and a solo home run while Braddy finished with a single and double. Both Wyatt and Westin Hayes had two singles each. Traub finished with a single and an RBI.
Traub picked up the pitching victory, going six innings, allowing five runs on three hits, four walks and striking out three.
The Hearts aren’t back in action until Monday when they travel to Teutopolis.

At Arcola
Neoga and Arcola went the first two innings without a score. Neoga then broke free, scoring three runs in the third.
But Arcola came back to tie the score in the sixth. Neoga retaliated with two runs in the top of the seventh then held off the Purpleriders in the bottom of the inning for a 5-4 victory.
Neoga had only two hits, both by Cayden Hakman with a single and double and an RBI. Grady Haarman finished with two RBI while Mason Platz had an RBI.
Malik Coy went six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits for the pitching victory. He did not allow a walk and struck out nine. Hakman came on to finish the final inning with two strikeouts.

At Marshall
Cumberland finished this game with 11 hits and outscored Marshall by a 14-4 count in six innings Wednesday.
The Pirates held a 1-0 lead in the first inning but Marshall came back to move ahead 3-1 in the second.
Cumberland broke loose again in the fourth with six runs, then tacked on six more in the fifth and one in the sixth to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Adyn Heuerman tallied three hits that included two singles, a home run and five RBI. Maddox Miller added a single, double and four RBI, Grady Jones a double and two RBI, Kade McMechan three singles and Lance Lock with a single and two RBI.
Jones came on in the fourth inning to hold Marshall down. He picked up the pitching win, allowing one hit while striking out three.
