A brisk wind and sunny skies set the stage for a flag raising at Effingham City Hall Wednesday afternoon. The ceremony was part of honoring America’s 250th anniversary.

The Ann Crooker St. Clair chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution received a grant to fund the acquisition of four 250th anniversary flags. The recipients of the flags are the City of Effingham, the County of Effingham, the Effingham Police Department, and the Effingham Fire Department. A presentation ceremony took place in front of City Hall.

Local DAR Regent Susan Oliver presented the flags to Effingham Mayor Mike Schutzbach, Effingham County Board Chairman Josh Douthit, Effingham Police Lieutenant Andy Warner, and Effingham Assistant Fire Chief Matt Kulesza. The 250th flag is already flying at City Hall in between the US flag and the Illinois state flag.

Oliver said the flags are permitted to be flown throughout 2026, and the DAR Chapter has other events planned throughout the year
