 Teutopolis Downs Newton, North Clay Beats WSS, CHBC, Dieterich Drop Losses In H.S. Baseball

NEWTON — Teutopolis didn’t let any grass grow in a 7-1 victory over Newton in high school baseball action Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 2-0 opening inning lead then added on three more in the second to lead 5-0 until the sixth. That’s when the Shoes scored two more runs for the 7-1 victory.

Coach Justin Fleener’s crew finished with 12 hits in the contest. Davin Worman led the way with a single, double, home run and two RBI while Aidan Niemerg finished with two singles, a triple and two RBI. Austin Borries added a single, double and two RBI and Andy Lustig a single and double. Nolan Schumacher finished with two singles and an RBI.

While the Shoes’ offense was clicking, Borries was holding Newton to six hits. He struck out nine and did not give up a walk. Borries now sports a 4-1 record.

Newton was led by Gavin Meinhart with two singles and an RBI and David Baltzell and Maddox Horner with a double each.

T-town improved to 17-5 while Newton dropped to 17-3.

The Shoes are back in action Friday hosting Marshall. Newton returns to play at Robinson Thursday.

T-town was an 8-1 winner over Richland County, Olney Tuesday in junior varsity action.

The Shoes moved into a 2-0 opening inning lead and never looked back. T-town had nine hits led by Luke Niebrugge with a single, double and two RBI, Eric Weidner and B. Schumacher with a double each. Schumacher had an RBI. Alex Grunloh and Ozzie Pals had two singles and an RBI each.

North Clay was a winner over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Tuesday, 7-3.

The Cardinals improved to 21-3 on the season and return to action Thursday at Altamont in a 4:30 p.m. contest.

 

At Shelbyville

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City traveled to Shelbyville and fell to the Rams by a 7-0 tally Tuesday.

Shelbyville scored six runs in the second and one in the sixth behind nine hits.

CHBC had five hits, led by Ben Askins with three singles.

At Dieterich

Casey-Westfield finished this contest with 14 hits while holding Dieterich to four in a 9-2 victory Tuesday.

The Warriors led 3-1 after the first inning, then tacked on two in the third, three in the fifth and one in the seventh. Dieterich finished with one more run in the bottom of the seventh.

Dieterich had four hits led by Bryce Bohnhoff with two singles and Gavin Meinhart with a single and an RBI.
