 St. Anthony Defeats Tolono Unity, Effingham Comes Up Short Against Terre Haute South Vigo

Tolono Unity moved ahead with a run in the second in high school baseball action Tuesday. But Effingham St. Anthony came back with two in the third and were never headed again, winning 5-2.

Both teams had six hits. Curtis Tingley had a double for the winners while Alex Mayer and Henry Brent added a single and two RBI each and Rogan Allen had two singles.

Aiden Lauritzen tossed the six-hitter with only one walk while striking out 10.

Ryan Cunningham led Tolono Unity with a single, home run and an RBI. Jordan Harmon added a single and an RBI.

At Terre Haute, Ind.

Effingham High School came up short against Terre Haute South Vigo, 4-2 in baseball competition Tuesday.

The Braves moved into a 1-0 lead in the second inning. But the Hearts came back with two runs in the top of the fourth behind a double by Brayden Tucker. The Hearts scored on Tucker’s double and a wild pitch.

Terre Haute tied in the bottom of the fourth and moved into a 3-2 lead in the fifth and finished out with a run in the sixth.

Terre Haute South had seven hits while the Hearts had five. EHS also had two errors.

Brayden Tucker had a double and an RBI for the Hearts while Jude Traub went three-for-three, all singles.

In a junior varsity contest, Effingham trounced Taylorville. The Hearts trailed 3-1 after the first inning but came back with three runs in the second and moved ahead 8-3 in the third. They tallied five more in the fourth and ended the game in the fifth, 14-3.

Elliott Braddy led the way with two singles and four RBI while Balen Garris had a single and two RBI. Dagg Thompson and Nash Wernsing had a single and an RBI each while Ian Kinkelaar, Coen Westjohn and Kaden Rohr added an RBI each.

Effingham returns to action today playing host to Taylorville.
