Harold C. Ballinger of Neoga, Illinois passed away Monday April 27, 2026 at Heartland Senior Living in Neoga, Illinois.
He was born in rural Shelby County on September 29, 1935 the son of Clarence and Marie (Price) Ballinger. Harold married Margaret A. “Peggy” (Schwerdt) on May 4, 1957 in Sigel, Illinois. He worked as a welder for P & H Manufacturing Company of Shelbyville, Illinois. He loved fishing and watching the St Louis Cardinals. In his younger years he coached little league baseball. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church of Neoga, he was a member of their Knights of Columbus Council. Harold was a board member of the Big Spring Township for many years.
Harold is survived by his wife of 68 years Margaret; children, Cyndi (Rick) Ambrosch, Deborah (Steve) Kaufman, David (Anna) Ballinger, Mary (Alan) Lee; daughter-in-law, Diana Ballinger; grandchildren, William (Kayleigh) Rahn, Alissa (Austin) Wilder, Sarah Ambrosch, Amber (Drew) Willenborg, Derick Ballinger, Brianne Kaufman and Gunner Ballinger; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl (Debbie) Ballinger; sister, Darlene Keck; and many nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; son Michael Ballinger; and sister, Loretta (John) Meek.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the St Michael School of Sigel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday May 2, 2026 at St Mary of the Assumption Church 690 N. Walnut St. Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Friday May 1, 2026 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, Illinois. The Knights of Columbus will hold a rosary service during the visitation. Burial will follow in the St Patrick Cemetery Trowbridge, Illinois.
