Altamont - small enough to care, large enough to serve

Once again, the Altamont City Council is looking for a new member.

Katie Huntley is buying a lot in the TIF District. Someone who serves on the Council can’t own a property in the TIF District, so Huntley’s last meeting will be May 11. Anyone interesting in serving on the Council should submit a letter of interest to City Clerk Sarah Stephen by June 5.

Meanwhile, Larry Taylor, who is slated to fill another vacancy on the Council, could not attend last night’s meeting to get sworn in. Taylor will be sworn in at the Council’s next meeting.

In other business, the Altamont Council heard from representatives of St. Paul ELCA Lutheran Church regarding placement of a Blessing Box. The box will serve as a repository of food items, both to donate items and to pick up items if someone needs the help.

The Council approved an ordinance allowing an adjacent property access way at 11 Do It Drive for Neely’s Tumbling, and approved an ordinance for a side yard intrusion at 120 Frontage Road for a nitrogen tank for BK Resources.

Also approved was a payment to Kieffer Brothers Construction for the water main replacement project, and a payment to Milano and Grunloh Engineers for a grant project.
