Cumberland High School scored a single run in the second inning against Hutsonville/Palestine and that proved to be the game winner in at 1-0 victory Friday in softball action.
The Pirates finished with six hits while Mia Holsapple tossed a three-hitter for the pitching victory. She gave up four walks and struck out three.
Meanwhile, Jude Miller banged out two doubles while Mia Holsapple had a single, double and an RBI. Lauren Schnepper added a double.

At Newton
Champaign Central edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Friday, 3-2 in the Newton Round Robin.
Central moved into a 2-0 opening inning lead. The Hatchets came back with a run in the bottom of the fourth but Central retaliated with a run in the fifth to lead 3-1. Windsor/Stew-Stras fought back again with a run in the bottom of the sixth only to fall short.
Both teams had six hits. Kinsley Dunaway had two singles, a double and an RBI while Mya Friese added a triple. Kendra Hayes had a single and an RBI.
Kalia Friese tossed a six-hitter. She did not walk a batter and struck out three.
In the second contest, Windsor/Stew-Stras blanked Freeburg by an 8-0 count.
The Hatchets scored a single run in the second and held that 1-0 lead until the fifth, scoring two more. They tallied two more in the sixth and finished with three in the seventh.
Hayes finished with three singles and an RBI while Dunaway had a double and four RBI and Clarissa Johnson had a double and two RBI.
In a Saturday game, Teutopolis came calling and blanked Windsor/Stew-Stras 10-0 in six innings.
Alyssa Tipton went the six innings on the mound, striking out nine while giving up two hits and no walks.
The Wooden Shoes led 2-0 after the first inning then had single runs in the third, fifth and sixth around five runs in the fourth.
The Wooden Shoes had 12 hits in the game led by Olivia Wermert with a single, two doubles and three RBI. Malea Helmink added a single and double, Chloe Hoene two singles and three RBI, Kera Hartke a double and two RBI. Lauren Shue had a double and Tipton a single and an RBI.
Dunaway had a double for the Hatchets while Clarissa Johnson added a single.
