COWDEN — Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City edged St. Elmo/Brownstown as two National Trail Conference softball teams clashed Thursday. The Bobcats came out a 12-11 victor.
St. Elmo/Brownstown moved into an 11-9 lead in the top of the seventh but the Bobcats came back with three runs on their own in the bottom of the frame to pull out the victory.
Both teams had 14 hits. Allison Shields led the way for the Bobcats with four singles and an RBI. Harper Lilly had a single, double and three RBI. Ryleigh Sarver finished with three singles and two RBI while Carissa Wakefield had two singles and an RBI. Jayla Arnett and Lyric Bennett had a single and an RBI each while Brylie Prater added an RBI.
Prater was the winner on the mound. She gave up two walks and struck out three.
St. Elmo/Brownstown also had 14 hits. Dayana Haslett had a single, triple and an RBI while Kadence Speagle finished with three singles and an RBI. Izzy Orr hit two singles and had three RBI while Macey Sapp also had two singles and tallied two RBI. Auni Wollin had a single and three RBI and Heaven Hardesty added two singles.
Speagle was the winning pitcher. She gave up two walks and struck out eight.

At St. Anthony
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg scored the only runs of this game against Effingham St. Anthony in the opening inning and won 2-0 Thursday.
The Hatchets’ Kendra Hayes hit a single in the top of the first inning and Kinsley Dunaway followed with a two-run homer and that was all it took.
St. Anthony had five hits led by Emeline Wines with a single and double.
Hayes went the distance, giving up five hits, one walk and struck out four.
Nancy Ruholl suffered the tough-luck loss allowing two runs on two hits, six walks and striking out six.

At Toledo
Cumberland played host to Teutopolis and the Wooden Shoes showed no mercy in a 10-0 victory in five innings Thursday.
The Wooden Shoes held a 3-0 opening inning lead and pushed that to 5-0 in the second. They scored four more runs in the fourth and ended the game via the 10-run rule with one in the fifth.
Alyssa Tipton tossed a one-hitter. She gave up three walks and struck out five.
Malea Helmink led the way in hitting with a single, two doubles and three RBI. Lauren Shue added a double. Chloe Hoene finished with two singles and two RBI while Kylie Borries had two RBI. Kera Hartke and Jersey Gaddis finished with two singles each.
T-town improved to 13-8 on the season and is back in action today at Hutsonville.
Cumberland’s lone hit was a single by Kada Miles.

Altamont struck early and quickly, taking a 6-0 lead over Vandalia and ended up with a 7-2 victory Thursday.
The Indians finished with eight hits, two of those for extra bases. Sophia Long had a single, triple and an RBI while Laila Hankins had a single and double. Avery Fleeharty had a single and two RBI and Ella Nelson a single and an RBI. Kennedi Schultz added an RBI.
Long went the distance on the mound. She gave up two runs on three hits, three walks while striking out eight.
At Altamont
