A 21-year-old Centralia man is in custody in connection with a fatal Sunday afternoon shooting in Centralia. Shavonte Samuels turned himself in at the Centralia Police station on Tuesday shortly after a warrant for his arrest was issued. Samuels was transported to the Marion County Jail where he is being held on a charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth said Samuels is one of two persons being sought who are believed to have had a gun at the time of the shooting. The other person and a third person that was present but not believed to have been armed are still being sought.
State Police announced Monday that a 19-year-old man died from gunshot wounds after being taken to St. Mary’s Hospital following the shooting. His name has not been released. They indicated three others were treated and released from the hospital.
