TOLEDO — Altamont came through with three runs in the later innings to hand Cumberland a 5-2 high school baseball loss in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3 Wednesday.
Altamont struck in the first inning. With one out, Carson Milleville singled. With two outs, Brayden Elam doubled Milleville home.
Cumberland retaliated in the bottom of the second. Hudson McElravy drew a walk. With one out, Adyn Heuerman hit a home run and the lead went to the Pirates, 2-1.
But, here came Altamont. Kade Milleville led off the third with a single but was picked off base. C. Milleville got his second hit of the game with a single. With two outs, Brayden Elam singled and Cooper McManaway drew a walk to load the bases. Parker Bell then drew a walk to bring C. Milleville home to tie the score at 2-2.
Cumberland went up and down in order in the third.
In the fourth there was a lot of activity by both teams. Altamont’s Will Reardon was hit by a pitch to take first base. He was sacrificed over by Reed Stuemke. With two outs, C. Milleville singled but Reardon became the third out.
With one out in the bottom of the frame, McElravy drew a walk and Lance Lock followed with a single. With two outs, Kade McMechan singled to load the bases. But Altamont got tough to get the final out.
Altamont then came back to score two runs in the fifth. Zaine Miller led off the frame by drawing a walk and took second on a wild pitch. Elam reached base when he was hit by a pitch. Cumberland then got the next two outs. Miller and Elam scored on an error on a ball hit by Blake Berg.
The Indians then put across a final run in the sixth. With two outs, C. Milleville singled and took second on a passed ball. Miller reached base on an error and Milleville scored.
Cumberland came back in the bottom of the seventh putting a runner on base as Bryson Webber crew a walk with two outs. But Altamont got the final out on a fly ball.
