Effingham High School picked up four of the six singles matches and won two doubles contests in edging Olney, Richland County by a 5-4 count in tennis competition Tuesday.
The Hearts’ Cannon Bockhorn won at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-0 while Joel Flack took No. 3, 6-2, 6-4. The wins continued in singles play as Brady Wilson claimed No. 4, 6-2, 6-2 and Noah Jones captured the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 7-5.
EHS then won the No. 3 doubles match to claim the victory. Cole Jones and Noah Jones combined to win in a tough-fought match. The pair went 7-6 (5) in the opener then lost the second set 6-4 before coming back to take the win 10-8.
The Hearts hit the road Thursday and head to Mahomet-Seymour for a 4:15 p.m. contest.

At Paris
Effingham St. Anthony traveled to Paris and fell to the Tigers, 6-3 Tuesday.
The Bulldogs took only two singles wins. Drake Brown claimed the No. 2 spot by a 6-3, 6-2 tally. Max Gillenwater was a winner at No. 5. Gillenwater fell in the opening set 6-4 but fought back 6-2, 1-0 (7).
Jackson Schultz and Brown combined at the No. 1 doubles spot to win 6-3, 6-4. But that’s where the victories ended as the Bulldogs fell.
The Bulldogs don’t return to action until Saturday when they will be competing in the Alton Tournament beginning at 9 a.m.
