 St. Anthony Edges Mount Zion 5-4 In Tennis Action

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Mount Zion in high school tennis action and edged the Braves by a 5-4 tally Monday.

St. Anthony’s Jackson Schultz claimed the top singles spot by a 6-1, 6-2 tally.

Max Gillenwater was a winner at No. 5 in a hard-fought battle, 7-6 (4), 6-3.

Mount Zion captured four of the six singles matches.

But the Bulldogs came back to win all three doubles contests to pull out the victory.

Schultz and Alec Hakman combined at No. 1 to win in a match that took some time, 7-6 (6), 6-7 (6), 10-6.

Gillenwater and Mason Jones combined to win, 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.

No. 3 went to Charlie Bierman and Anthony Brandenburger. The pair won the opening set 6-3 but Mount Zion came back to blank the pair 6-0. Bierman and Brandeburger then dug deep and won the match 10-8.
