 Effingham Hands Cumberland, 16-5 Loss in High School Softball

TOLEDO — Effingham High School broke a 4-4 opening inning tie with a two-run second and went on to down Cumberland 16-5 Friday in softball action in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

The Hearts moved ahead with two runs in the second. Cumberland came back within 6-5 in the fourth but the Hearts had a seven-run fifth and a three-run seventh for the victory.

Effingham was on offensively, finishing with 19 hits.  Keagyn Koenig had a big game with a single, two home runs and four RBI. Maci Hayes added two doubles and two RBI while Sydney Cunningham had two singles, a double and three RBI. Molly Maxedon finished with a double and an RBI, Cora Hartman four singles and an RBI, Ryley Engel with three singles and two RBI and Natalie Armstrong with two singles and an RBI. Aubrey Poe had a single and two RBI.

Armstrong went six innings for the victory on the mound. She gave up five runs on eight hits, three walks and struck out two.

Cumberland was led by Jade Carr with three singles, Ashton Tolen with two singles and Kada Miles with a single and an RBI. Ava Long, Jude Miller and Lauren Schnepper finished with a single each. The Pirates dropped to 4-5 on the season.
