Richard “Dick” C. Grunloh, 73 of Effingham, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 8:30 am to 10:00 am Thursday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to St. Anthony Schools.
Richard was born December 1, 1952 in Effingham, the son of Clifford and Marian (Steger) Grunloh. He graduated from St. Anthony High School, Class of 1970. Richard was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and was an active member in the local and national chapters of Alcoholics Anonymous, celebrating nearly 32 years of sobriety.
Richard’s proudest achievements were his children and grandchildren, all of whom survive – Danielle (Joshua) Gumpenberger of St. Louis, MO, Allison (Jordan) Kirkpatrick of Benton, IL, and Jeremy Grunloh. Richard loved being a grandpa to Hayes, Hugh, Sophia, and Cruz. Richard is from a large family and all of his 8 siblings survive – Ted Grunloh of Effingham, Debby (Joe) Rickelman of Worth, Bill (Diana) Grunloh of Toledo, Sandy (Steve) Brown of Mahomet, Tom (Autumn) Grunloh of Effingham, Lynn (Bruce) Lustig of Effingham, Ed (Lori) Grunloh of Effingham and Amy Jolliff of Decatur, GA. Also surviving are 19 nieces and nephews, as well as 21 great-nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Nicole (Grunloh) Hauschild.
His daughters would like to thank the staff at Davita Dialysis, as well as their mother, Susan Grunloh, for her assistance in his care.
