 St. Anthony Wins At Sullivan, T-town Splits At Fairfield, EHS Splits, S. Central Loses Twice at C-W In H.S. Softball

SULLIVAN — Effingham St. Anthony edged into a 1-0 lead against the host squad in the Sullivan Round Robin Softball Tournament Saturday and finished with a 10-6 victory.

The Bulldogs had 15 hits in the contest led by Mallory Litz with a home run and three RBI, Kelli Honselman with three singles and two RBI, Lilly Gannaway with three singles and an RBI. Sadie Vineyard had a triple while Jackie Vonderheide and Emeline Wines had two singles and an RBI each. Julia Schultz and Lilly Hardiek tallied a single and an RBI each.

At Fairfield

Teutopolis competed in the Lady Mule Spring Fling at Fairfield Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes easily handled Carmi-White County by an 8-0 tally. T-town finished with 12 hits led by Malea Helmink with two singles, a home run and four RBI, Jersey Gaddis with a single and triple, Kylie Borries with two doubles and an RBI and Chloe Hoene with a double.

Gaddis was the winning pitcher. She went four innings, gave up no runs on two hits, one walk while striking out five.

Edwards County edged Teutopolis, 5-4.

Edwards County moved into a 3-0 opening inning lead. T-town came back within 3-2 in the second and moved ahead 4-2 in the top of the fourth. But Edwards County won the game in the bottom of the fourth with two runs.

T-town outhit Edwards County by 7-4 count. Clara Mette had a single, double and three RBI while Kera Hartke added a single and an RBI.

At Casey-Westfield

Effingham and South Central competed in the Casey-Westfield Tournament Saturday.

Effingham’s first game was a 3-1 loss to Westville.

Westville took a 1-0 first inning lead and tacked on two more in the third and one in the seventh behind an 11-hit attack.

Effingham had only two hits, singles by Natalie Armstrong and Aubrey Poe.

In the second contest, the Hearts broke loose with 17 hits, eight of those doubles and edged Champaign Central, 11-10.

The Hearts, Maci Hayes and Gieah Schlanser had two singles, a double and an RBI each while Ryley Engel had two doubles and two RBI. Natalie Armstrong finished with a single, double and two RBI. Keagyn Koenig had a single and double, Cora Hartmann added a double and Molly Maxedon had two singles and an RBI. Aubrey Poe and Cora Hartmann added a double each. Sydney Cunningham finished with a single and two RBI.

South Central fell to Mount Zion by an 11-1 count. The lone run for the Cougars came in the fifth.

South  Central had three hits led by Lauren Johnson with a solo home run.

Casey-Westfield was an 11-4 winner over South  Central.

South Central held a 4-1 lead until the bottom of the third when Casey-Westfield scored six runs.

Kinlee Thompson had a triple and three RBI while Emmie Ruholl added two singles and Maddie Peddicord had an RBI for South Central.
