Effingham City Council members and officials participated in a budget workshop Tuesday in preparation for Fiscal Year 2027.
City Administrator Steve Miller led Council members Larry Micenheimer, Libby Moeller and Jake Niebrugge through the budget blueprint. The session followed individual meetings with the city council members to review their priorities.
The Council will conduct a public hearing on the proposed budget at their April 7th meeting, and the measure should be voted on April 21st to have the new budget in place for the start of the fiscal year on May 1st.
An interesting part of the budget is the Capital Improvement Plan, and we’ll be reviewing that in future newscasts. Several portions of streets are to be improved. Another portion of the plan will be beautification steps to be taken in the downtown area. Some of the ideas are directly from the new Comprehensive Plan for Effingham. Those ideas include music and more improvements to enhance the downtown area.
