Two arrests were made after a report of shots fired in Effingham Tuesday evening.
Effingham Police Dispatch received a call about the shots at 5:50pm. The shots were fired in a wooded area in the 200 block of East Eiche Avenue. Effingham police officers responded along with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and the Effingham Fire Department. Two subjects were detained and questioned about the incident. It was determined the two subjects were shooting at a target. Responding officers recovered the firearm and discovered it to be stolen.
19-year-old Camden L. Evans of Effingham was arrested by Effingham City Police on counts of possession of a stolen firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. A 16-year-old male was cited for possession of a stolen firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
Effingham Police Chief Kurt Davis said at Tuesday’s City Council meeting that no one was injured in the incident.
Evans was still in custody this morning in Effingham County Jail. The juvenile is being held in the St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Center.
Davis praised the officers’ response and quick action, saying a “shots fired” call where no one was injured and the incident was quickly resolved is a success. He thanked Illinois State Police, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, and the Effingham Fire Department drone operators for their support and cooperation during the incident.
