Mark O. Stodden, 66, of Sigel, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Green Creek. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family, in the care of Dana Stodden. Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.
Mark was born on August 20, 1959, in Effingham, IL, the son of Francis and Ruth (Greuel) Stodden. He married Dana Sharp on October 25, 1980, and she survives. Mark was a devoted father and grandfather who dearly loved his family. He was a hard worker that never complained and took great pride in working with family both, on the farm taking care of livestock, and building grain bins. Mark was strong, both physically and in character he was someone you could always count on, and seemed to be able to fix anything. He loved to tinker and experiment with building new things. He also enjoyed watching movies and spending time with his family. One thing that never changed was his love for family and his four-legged companion Rosie.
Mark is survived by his wife, Dana Stodden of Sigel; children, Jon (Michelle) Stodden of Terre Haute, IN, Kenny (Whitney) Stodden of Hammond, IL, and Genna (James) Prather of Herrin, IL; grandchildren, Emeilyah, Alex, Josie, Emily, Jayce, Levi, Abbie, and August; siblings, LaVerne (Jane) Stodden of Aurora, Charles Stodden of Trilla, Leo (Rosario) Stodden of Chicago, Melvin (Sara) Stodden of Sigel, Wayne (Pat) Stodden of Sigel, Joyce Stuckey of Mattoon, Janice (Walt) Townsend of Geff, Doris (John) Wiedman of Effingham, Lorraine (Steve) Mozley of Springfield, and Renee (Joe) Harris of Denton, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lois Debolt, Albert Stodden, and Norma Jones.
