 Cumberland Claims H.S. Baseball Win, Teutopolis Drops First Game At Metro Classic

VANDALIA — Cumberland edged out to a 1-0 opening inning leaded and finished this game against Vandalia by a 13-1 tally in the sixth inning.

The Pirates added on eight more runs in the second and four in the sixth behind a 10-hit attack.

Maddox Miller had the lone extra base hit for the Pirates with a double and an RBI. Adyn Heuerman had two singles and two RBI while Hudson McElravy and Grady Jones finished with two singles and an RBI each. Lance Lock had a singe and two RBI while Reed Miller and Kade McMechan with a single and an RBI each.

Jones went five innings on the mound for the win. He gave up one run on four hits, walked three and struck out seven.

At O’Fallon

Teutopolis suffered a loss in its opener in the Metro Classic at O’Fallon’s Blazier Field Wednesday.

Mascoutah moved into a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Teutopolis tied the score in the fourth inning. But Mascoutah retaliated with a single run in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Indians had seven hits, three of those doubles.

Meanwhile, the Wooden Shoes ended with only two hits, singles by Nolan Schumacher and Jason Kreke. Schumacher had the lone RBI.

The Shoes went through three pitchers, who have up seven hits, three walks while striking out eight. Austin Borries started the contest, going three innings, giving up one run on three hits, one walk while striking out three. Hayden Tebbe went two innings allowing one run on one hit, two walks and striking out three. N. Schumacher tossed the final two innings, allowing one run on three hits, no walks and striking out two.

T-town’s next contest will be Friday at O’Fallon against Columbia.
