Linda Sue Thompson, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois, at the age of 83.

Born in Cowden on February 26, 1943, Linda was the daughter of the late James “Wesley” and Fern (Yarnell) Robertson. Her roots ran deep in Cowden, where she was a proud 1960 graduate of Cowden High School. On April 23, 1961, Linda married Donald Thompson. Together, they embarked on a journey of love, partnership, and family, a bond that was unwavering.

Linda and Don were blessed with three children: Maury (Angie) Thompson, Wally Thompson, and Kendra Thompson. Linda’s legacy continued to flourish with her seven grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan, Eric, Alex, Sam, Ben, and Emma, and her four great-grandchildren, Reed, Cora, Calvin, and Carson. Her love for her family was her greatest joy, and the precious moments spent with them were the treasures she held most dear. Linda is also survived by her brother, Jim Robertson.

Her professional life was marked by her 29-year tenure with the United States Postal Service as a postal clerk in Effingham. Following in her parents’ entrepreneurial footsteps, Linda and her husband Don also ran Robertson Sundries for several years, continuing a family tradition of local business and service. Linda was a member of the Beecher City Church of Christ for the last many years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Beecher City Church of Christ with Pastor Kevin Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Mound Cemetery in rural Cowden. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden. Memorials in Linda’s honor may be made to the Donor’s Favorite Charity and may be mailed to 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.
