 Class 1A, 2A Boys Basketball Tournaments Underway, Class 3A, 4A Play Today

Class 1A and 2A boys State Tournament basketball action got underway Thursday at the University of Illinois Assembly Hall.

In Class 1A, Goreville won over Lawrenceville, 55-47 and Chicago Marshall downed Lanark Eastland 66-38.

The third place game was contested later in the evening and Lawrenceville won over Lanark Eastland 61-43.

Goreville and Chicago Marshall will meet Saturday at 10 a.m. for the 1A State championship.

In Class 2A, Peoria Manual defeated Tolono Unity 62-57 while Quincy Notre Dame trounced Chicago Farragut 64-33.

Tolono Unity then defeated Farragut for third place, 86-61.

Peoria Manual and Quincy Notre Dame will meet at noon Saturday for the Class 2A State championship.

Class 3A and 4A will play today.

In the Class 3A opening games, Deerfield will meet Maple Park Kaneland at 10 a.m. followed by Chicago Leo and East St. Louis Senior at 11:45 a.m. The losers will compete for third place at 7 p.m.

The winners will go on to Saturday action, meeting for the championship at 4 p.m.

In Class 4A, Elmhurst York meets Chicago Marist at 2:30 p.m. followed by Chicago DePaul College Prep vs. Lisle Benet Academy at 4:15 p.m.

The losers will play for third place at 7 p.m.

The winners will advance to the Class 4A State championship game Saturday at 6 p.m.
