Details are now available on the crash that led to the deaths of a Farina couple.
The crash happened on February 19 on I-57 southbound and involved James and Catherine Rentfrow. Illinois State Police say 76-year-old James Rentfrow was the driver of a SUV that was struck from behind by a semi. 77-year-old Catherine Rentfrow was a passenger. The impact then pushed the Rentfrow vehicle into a car in front of it.
James Rentfrow died on March 3rd. Catherine Rentfrow died on March 7th.
The driver of the truck, 61-year-old Mark Lawson of Dallas, Texas, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash. Lawson was not injured.
James Rentfrow was a dairy farmer who formerly lived in Effingham. He and his wife were both involved in Campers on Mission, an organization of evangelical Christian campers and RVers who share their faith in and love for Jesus through various missions.
