Newton and St. Elmo/Brownstown opened the high school softball season with victories Tuesday.
The Eagles moved into a 2-0 opening inning lead but Red Hill tallied a run in the second. Newton then went on an offensive run, scoring six runs in the third and five in the fourth to end this game via the 10-run rule, 13-1.
L. Ghast tossed a two-hitter for the victory on the mound. She allowed one run, did not give up a walk and struck out three. K. Deckard came on to go two innings, giving up one walk and striking out two. E. Inyart tossed the final inning, finishing with two strikeouts.
Claire Probst led the way in hitting with two singles, a triple and four RBI. A Reich added a single and double while J. Reich and Allie Hermann finished with a double and an RBI each. K. Deckard added two singles while L. Ghast and E. Brooks had a single and two RBI each and J. Dhom tallied a single and an RBI.

At St. Elmo
St. Elmo/Brownstown put together a 10-hit attack and handed Cisne a 12-2 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule Tuesday.
St. Elmo/Brownstown edged out to a 2-1 opening inning lead then had a five-run second, a three-run third and ended the game via the 10-run rule with two in the bottom of the fifth.
The Eagles finished with 10 hits led by Dayana Haslett with a single, two doubles and three RBI. M. Sapp added two singles and drove in three runs while K. Speagle finished with two singles. D. Chandler had a single and an RBI.
