The Effingham Police Department, in partnership with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, invites you to participate in the 2026 Citizens Police Academy, an 8-week program beginning March 26, 2026.
This academy is designed to provide community leaders and business professionals with a comprehensive understanding of local law enforcement operations. Participants will gain insight into the distinct roles, responsibilities, and capabilities of both the Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office, and how each agency serves our community.
Program Details (Thursday Evenings | 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.)
- An in-depth review of police and sheriff’s office operations and procedures
- Hands-on exposure to real police equipment
- Patrol operations and legal concepts instruction
- Narcotics and investigations overview
- K9, Special Response Team (SRT), and drone operations demonstrations
- Use-of-force scenarios utilizing the Use of Force Simulator
- A 911 operations overview
- An on-shift ride-along experience

There is no cost to attend. Participants must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.
To graduate from the program, participants must attend a minimum of five sessions. If a business wishes to rotate attendance among employees in order to meet participation requirements, that is acceptable.
