Effingham and Shelbyville split in junior high volleyball competition Wednesday evening.
The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest, 25-13, 25-21. Lillian Weishaar led the team in kills with five. Anna Gouchenouer had seven aces and six digs. Mia Hartke led in assists with four.
Effingham improved to 13-5 on the season.
In eighth-grade play, Shelbyville was a winner 25-15, 25-17.
Effingham was led by Kendyl Smith with five kills, Arabella Barnhart with two aces, Kenley Moore with eight assists and Kloey Bierman with six digs.
The Mustangs drop to 8-12 on the season.
Effingham will be back in action today at Cumberland.

Stewardson-Strasburg handed Neoga losses in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Wednesday.
Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade match, 27-25, 22-25, 25-22. Neoga dropped to 1-2.
In eighth-grade play, Stew-Stras won 25-16, 25-20. Neoga fell to 0-2.
