 Trinity Lutheran Wins Effingham Side-out Shootout Title, Area Junior High Volleyball Roundup

Trinity Lutheran won the championship at Effingham during the weekend. Members of the team are, front row, left to right, Reese Stigers, Gia Bostedo, Brielle Friese, Cora Reed and Hayden Reed. In the Side-Out Shootout Tournament at Effingham during the weekend, Stewardson Trinity claimed the championship.

Trinity defeated Effingham, 25-8, 25-12 and St. Anthony 25-15, 25-9. The squad won over Mount Pulaski, 25-15, 25-12 and finished out with a 25-16, 25-8 win over Hartum.

Trinity is now 22-1 on the season.

“I am so pleased with how my girls are plying right now,” said Trinity Coach Tammy Manhart. “This is the first time in my nine years coaching Trinity that I have had six eighth-graders. These six play so well together and are such a well-rounded group. Every one of them are solid contributors. I am super proud of the growh our sixth-grade libero has shown just in this season alone. We have high hopes for a good post-season run.”

Effingham fell to Trinity, 25-8, 25-12, lost to St. Anthony 25-20, 25-10, beat Mount Pulaski, 25-18, 25-19 and lost to Albion, 27-25, 29-27.

Teutopolis’ eighth-grade competed in the Shootout. Following are the scores:

Teutopolis lost to Hartem, 25-13, 25-9; defeated Albion, 25-20, 25-23; lost to Massac County, 25-13, 25-16 and lost to Mount Pulaski, 25-17, 25-14.

At Windsor

North Clay won the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Tournament Saturday.

North Clay defeated Altamont, 25-5, 25-19; Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 25-9, 25-15 and South Central, 25-11, 25-20.

The Bobcats defeated Cumberland, 25-10, 23-25, 15-11

Sigel St. Michael finished third with a 25-22, 25-17 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

CHBC lost to North Clay 25-9, 25-15 to drop into the third place match.

 

At Neoga

Neoga and Dieterich split victories in junior high volleyball action Friday evening.

Neoga won the seventh-grade match, 25-14, 17-25, 26-24 and improved to 2-1.

In eighth-grade play, Dieterich as the winner, 25-19, 22-25, 25-13.
