Given that Friday the 13th will be the setting for tonight’s high school boys’ basketball schedule, here are highlights from past games in which teams from county schools scored victories despite the superstition often associated with the 13th day of the month falling on a Friday . . .

Beecher City — The Eagles of Coach Leon Gobczynski placed four players in double figures on Friday, December 13, 1985, to defeat Ramsey in the championship game of the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament, 81-62.

Effingham — On Friday, January 13, 1989, the Hearts won on the road at Robinson, 55-45, giving Coach Jim Maxedon his 400th win at Effingham.
St. Anthony — Mike Wente scored 42 points for the Bulldogs before fouling out with two minutes to go, as St. Anthony defeated archrival Teutopolis at J.H. Griffin Gym, 69-68, on Friday, December 13, 1968.
Teutopolis — In a 97-45 triumph over conference foe Cowden-Herrick, Mark Kreke scored 48 points for the Wooden Shoes on Friday, February 13, 1976, at J.H. Griffin.
Incidentally, the next opportunity for a boys’ basketball game to be played on Friday the 13th will be Friday, December 13, 2030.
