 Effingham Wins, Play For Hillsboro Freshman Tourney Title Tonight

Effingham High School’s freshman boys basketball team defeated Greenville in the semifinals of the Hillsboro Freshman Tournament Wednesday evening.

The Hearts won 68-51.

EHS held a 19-12 opening quarter lead as Flack hit five baskets for 10 points and Thompson put in two three-pointers.

The Hearts held a 34-21 halftime lead. Moon connected on one three-pointer in the first quarter then came back with another three-pointer and two baskets for seven in the second period as the Hearts led 34-21.

EHS finished with a 21-18 third period. Thompson added on seven more points while Richmond put in five and Moon added four.

EHS had four players hit double figures. Moon led the way with 18 points while Flack added 17, Thompson 15 and Richmond 10.

The Hearts will play for the championship today against Taylorville.
