Dennis E. Quast, 70, went to be with The Lord on Monday, February 9, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, Tennessee.
Dennis was born on September 13, 1955, in Effingham, Illinois, to Charles and Loretta Quast, and spent his childhood in Stewardson. After graduating from Eastern Illinois University, Dennis began a lifelong career of service with Community Support Systems in Teutopolis. Over the course of 35 years at CSS, he assisted individuals with developmental disabilities in finding meaningful work, oversaw group homes, and organized community outreach programs.
In November of 2013, Dennis moved to Crossville, Tennessee, where he enjoyed the mountain air and embraced a taste of farm life. He was a valued Social Services Director at Wyndridge Rehabilitation center until his retirement at the age of 62.
Dennis never met a stranger and was a natural storyteller. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, beekeeping, woodcarving, and cheering on the Chicago Bears.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Lisa; five children, Shelby Rodewald (Matthew), Amanda Fulton (Rob), Lucas Quast (Emily), Chelsey Loy (Jovan), and Clayton Conder; eight grandchildren including Holden Pontious (Kaylee), with a ninth on the way; and three siblings, Gary Quast, Sharon Knaus, and Julie Slifer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Loretta Quast.
An open-house celebration of life will be held at Effingham Centenary United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 14 from 2-4 PM. An additional celebration will be held in Crossville, Tennessee, at a future date.
