Effingham St. Anthony played host to an Eighth-Grade Volleyball Tournament Saturday.
In opening round play at the Enlow Center:
On the West Court, St. Anthony defeated Holy Cross 25-7, 25-9, Oblong won over Sigel St. Michael, 25-16, 25-19, Sigel St. Michael defeated Oblong, 25-17, 25-9, Oblong downed St. Anthony, 21-25, 25-22, 15-13, Oblong beat Holy Cross 25-8, 25-8 and St. Anthony won over Sigel St. Michael 25-15, 25-11.
On the East Court, North Clay downed Red Hill, 25-11, 25-7, Stewardson Trinity won over Teutopolis, 25-13, 25-17 and defeated Red Hill 25-6, 25-6. North Clay downed Teutopolis, 25-6, 25-18, Red Hill won over Teutopolis, 23-25, 25-18, 15-13 and North Clay beat Stewardson Trinity, 25-22, 27-25.
In the championship match, North Clay won over Oblong, 25-17, 25-19.
The third place match went to Stewardson Trinity over St. Anthony, 25-17, 25-14.
Sigel St. Michael claimed the fifth place match over Red Hill, 25-11, 25-21 and Teutopolis placed seventh by downing Holy Cross, 25-12, 25-10.

At Albion
Effingham placed second in the Eighth-Grade Albion Tournament and fourth in the Albion Seventh-Grade Tourney Saturday.
In the seventh-grade tourney, Effingham defeated Grayville, 25-13, 25-20 before losing to West Salem, 25-17, 26-24 and St. Thomas 25-22, 21-25, 26-24.
In the eighth-grade tourney, Effingham beat St. Thomas, 25-18, 25-14 and Albion, 25-11, 25-17. The Mustangs lost to West Salem, 25-21, 16-25, 15-11 to finish second.
In regular season action Friday, Effingham won over Dieterich in the seventh-grade match, 25-19, 25-18 to improve to 6-1. Alivia Lauritzen led in kills with six, Anna Gouchenouer and Lillian Weishaar had four aces each, Rosie Schmidt led in assists with six and Gouchenouer led in digs with two.
In eighth-grade play, Dieterich was the winner, 25-13, 25-22.
Effingham was led by Miley Wilson with five kills, Kenley Moore with nine aces and nine assists and Kloey Bierman with six digs.
The Mustangs drop to 2-5 on the season.

At St. Elmo
Teutopolis defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Friday.
The Wooden Shoes lost the opening set in seventh-grade play, 25-22 but came back to take the match 25-21, 27-25 and improved to 7-4.
In eighth-grade action, T-town also lost the opening set, 25-13, but came back with 25-15, 25-15 wins for the match and improved to 3-8.
At Greenville
Altamont competed in the Greenville Seventh-Grade Tournament Saturday.
Altamont fell to Greenville, 25-5, 25-25. Adriana Starnes and Blakely McClellan had one dig each.
The Wildcats won against Pocahontas, 25-21, 25-22. Cali Ruffner led in aces with four while Starnes had two kills.
Altamont lost to Gillespie, 25-11, 25-15. Ruffner led in aces with three and kills with one, Brooklyn Burner had one assist and one dig and Starner had one dig.
At Greenville Tournament

At Newton
Jasper County competed against Marshall Friday and won both the seventh- and eighth-grade matches.
In seventh-grade play, Jasper County was a 25-7, 25-15 winner and improved to 6-2.
In eighth-grade action, Jasper County won 25-22, 25-17 and is 7-1. Wolf led in aces with six while Briscoe led in kills with six. Mulvey had seven assists. Jansen led in digs with nine. Hall and Evan had one block each.
Jasper County is back in action today at Effingham.
