Sherry Lynn Lewis, age 58, of Newton Illinois passed away on February 1st, 2026.
She was born December 21st 1967 to Robert (Bob) and Peggy Lewis in Mattoon Illinois. Sherry went to school in the Newton Illinois area. She was a school teacher for over 30 years. She started as a Head Start teacher in Newton, then went on to teach at Monroe Elementary in Casey Illinois. She was a passionate and devoted teacher who dedicated her life to education. She inspired students with patience, kindness and made a lasting impact on many lives. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and found the greatest joy in spending meaningful moments with family and friends.
Sherry was survived by her mother Peggy Lewis of Newton Illinois, her daughters Geanie and Sarah Wilson (Karen Wallace) of Oshkosh Wisconsin, her sister Connie (Kevin) Tracy of Newton Illinois, Bob (Shelia) Lewis of Robinson Illinois, further survived by her grandchildren Makenzie and Makaela Reyes, Taylor and Brayden Gonzales, Tristan Duket, and Daniyah Shakoor. Also survived by many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Bob Lewis and her sister Nancy Maxwell.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, Illinois with Pastor Rick Britton officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service, Saturday, February 7th in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hunt Cemetery, rural Yale, Illinois.
