Effingham Park Board commissioners Monday appointed Serena Buzzard to serve as Park District Treasurer.
Buzzard’s appointment follows the recent death of Anita Broom.
Broom had resigned on January 2, but her death came before the Park Board met to accept her resignation and choose her successor.
Buzzard is a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana and is working on her CPA certification.
Work has begun to make sure the books are caught up by the start of the new fiscal year on May 1.
Park District Director Jeff Althoff reported on numbers obtained from the City that show 66,000 visitors to Evergreen Hollow Park in the past year, 41,500 visitors to Community Park, and 16,000 visitors to Hendelmeyer Park.
Also Monday, a budget review of the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex show better numbers in the past year. The net revenue is down $2,000, but that doesn’t include lease revenue from HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for its use of the Center.
The Board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Effingham. The City will lease space at Community Park for a storage building that will house the Wonderland in Lights Christmas lights. The City will build a restroom facility in the east part of the park. All of the work is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
Registration continues for spring soccer with registration for other spring sports to follow.
