Anita I. Broom (63) of Teutopolis

Anita I. Broom, 63 of Teutopolis, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial to follow in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to the time of Mass, Wednesday at the church. Memorial donations may be given to “Fear Nothing” or any local cancer organization. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Teutopolis.
Anita was born August 26, 1962 in Effingham, the daughter of Laverne and Wilma (Pals) Buhnerkempe. She married Robert J. “Bob” Broom on November 14, 1997. Anita served her church faithfully for more than two decades as a bookkeeper and office manager, while also contributing her time to the parish council. During those same years, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Effingham Park District and served on the park board. She found great joy in being outdoors, especially gardening and tending to her flowers, and had a deep appreciation for the arts. Anita always went above and beyond for her family and friends.
Anita is survived by her husband, Bob; son, Tyler Broom; brothers, John (Barbara) Buhnerkempe of Chatham and James (Karen) Buhnerkempe of Effingham; sisters, Jeanne Althoff of White House, TN and Mary (Robert) Drury of Yellow Springs, OH; mother-in-law, Bernice Broom of Teutopolis.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Karen Lucille Buhnerkempe; and father-in-law, Donald Broom.
