 Catholic Schools Week celebrated at Sacred Heart and St. Anthony

With this week being Catholic Schools Week, all city Catholic Schools are having activities each day.

Sacred Heart School will be celebrate Christ-centered education, and this year’s theme is United in Faith and Community.  Many activities will demonstrate how Sacred Heart School provides a strong foundation fostering faith formation, high-quality education, and discipleship.

All Week:

  • Fundraiser for the Family Life Center – Each classroom will collect money throughout the week for the Family Life Center.  The class with the highest average donation per student will receive a pizza party.

Tuesday, Jan. 27 – Celebrating the Nation

  • Students will come together for a Living Rosary, spending time together in prayer for our nation
  • Students can wear red, white, & blue t-shirts

Wednesday, Jan. 28 – Celebrating Vocations

  • Guests Fr. Zach Samples and Sr. Clementia will come talk with our students about vocations and following God’s call on your life

Thursday, Jan. 29 – Celebrating Students

  • Grades K-8 will attend the “All-Schools Mass” at St. Anthony High School, along with other area Catholic Schools and Bishop Thomas John Paprocki from the Diocese of Springfield
  • Grades K-4 will then enjoy an Activity Day at Sacred Heart School while grades 5-8 will enjoy an Activity Day at St. Anthony High School
  • No homework day and no tests on Friday

Friday, Jan. 30- Celebrating Faculty and Staff

  • Our Shamrock Parent Association (SPA) will provide ice cream treats for students and other special treats for the staff

Tuesday, January 27th Celebrating Our Vocations

● No mass – all students will attend mass on Thursday, January 29th.
Student and Teacher Dress Code swap – Teachers dress like students and students permitted to dress like teacher/school staff members.
● Fatherly Feud – Assembly 2pm

Wednesday, January 28th –Celebrating Our Nation and Community

● Representatives from the Effingham National Guard, County Police, Effingham Police and Effingham Fire Departments will be present to play in PE classes during the day.
● All Students will be permitted to dress as their favorite superhero to celebrate our local heroes or they can choose to wear sweats/sweatshirts/t-shirts to school this day. (No yoga pants or leggings/shorts)

Thursday, January 29thCelebrating Our Students

● We will be attending the deanery mass at the high school, which begins at 10:00am.  We ask that all students wear RED school uniform shirts.

● High School is providing activities for 5th-8th grade students during the afternoon.

○ 5th through 8th graders will need to bring their own sack lunch and drink for the day.

● K-4 students will be back for lunch (will follow the current lunch menu for the day) – will show a movie in the gym that afternoon.
● Students are permitted to bring in a pillow and blanket to sit on the floor along with a snack and drink of their choice for the movie.

Friday, January 30thCelebrating Faculty and Staff

● Students will be allowed to wear sweatpants (no yoga pants) and a spirit shirt.  Each sectional will have the chance to play volleyball in the gym and participate in all gym activities.  Then all students will come to the gym for a volleyball game between a few chosen students and our “celebrities”.

Saturday, January 31stCelebrating Families

● Family Night – families are encouraged to do something together as a family (movie night, game night, etc.)
